I have had the privilege of visiting with many MGC residents over the summer. As I was a paid Field Interviewer, of course I cannot give details of the study.
I will say that I marvel every day at the recovery efforts. True, some people are not happy with progress; some people have been left behind and are still struggling.
Some people are in a better position than before the hurricane.
I believe it is general knowledge that some people did not return. Some cite the cost of living changed so drastically that they could not afford to rebuild, and pay insurance while living in a much inflated economy while income remained for the most part at the Pre-Katrina level.
In closing, Thanks again to the volunteers who helped rebuild. I personally, will never forget.

Top-level comments on this article: (1 total)Suzi, I don't understand this article. Is your gift of giving this home to a Katrina survivor the miracle of God or is it a marketing plan? Help me understand because there are a multitude of those who suffered from Katrina that still do not no where to call home. In my writing and research regarding Katrina and PTSD, I do not want to trivialize the impact of this horrific event.James, I am pleased to make contact with you. Are you still in AZ? Do you plan to visit soon and perhaps help some of us experiencing PTSD? "Trivialize the impact?" I live here James. Enough said. This was not my gift, rather my reporting of a gift. Because the mentioned sponsors made it happen does not mean that it is any less a gift. Miracle of God or Marketing Plan? I believe God can use marketing to create modern day Miracles. Perhaps in marketing others will also step up to the plate and realize that it isn't over. 1 family settled, many more to go. Rochelle wanted it known that the memorial is in the back yard. She asked me to post pictures. I plugged Planetta homes without their knowledge because I believe they deserve recognition, and because they also experienced huge losses. If we limit God, maybe the home isn't a miracle. I see God as using marketing in bringing people together to achieve the Miracles of today. By the way, do you offer PTSD counseling by email?Regarding PTSD, James--I am interested in any research I can find. Writing is one way that I personally deal with it. I suspect there are many people who appear to be carrying on with their lives that are silent sufferers.Excuse me but let me enlighten you. No one has EVER lived in the house on Easy St and it is now May 2008. Why? Because it was all a SCAM. Rochelle never lived in that house before the storm. After she got the new house she tried to lock her siblings out of it and they started to tell on her, how she lied to Tyra Banks. The whole thing is tied up in court and no one lives there. In an area where all the housing got destroyed it sits brand new and LOCKED. It is ridiculous. By the way, the two people that died, they weren't saints by a long shot. They made the entire neighborhood suffer. So next time you want to help people, do you homework instead of taking the person crying the loudest. If you think this isn't true - check it out.Ms Aitken, If you will re read the article you will see I was simply reporting events of that day. I also gave references to professional reporting. It was not my personal business to judge the worthiness of those who lived, or those who died as a result of the storm. I try not to harbor grudges against anyone, particularly after Katrina. I do not know if the criteria for assistance was that Rochelle or any of her siblings actually lived in the house at the time of the storm. I agree, it is too bad that the house is locked and no one is living in it. Perhaps you can motivate Tyra Banks, or WLOX to do a follow up investigation. REgards, and I hope you have a safe 2008 HSeason
